News Release - November 22, 2023

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau, in conjunction with members of the Sexual Assault and Crimes Against Children Unit, have laid two additional charges against a 53-year-old physiotherapist working out of the City of Richmond Hill.
 

On Monday, October 23, 2023, investigators received information that a victim was sexually assaulted during a physiotherapy visit at a clinic in the area of Yonge Street and Centre Street.
 

On October 30, 2023, Iraj DANESHVAR from Richmond Hill was charged with one count of Sexual Assault. York Regional Police subsequently notified the public and, as a result, other victims came forward and reported being sexually assaulted by the suspect under similar circumstances.
 

On November 21, 2023, the suspect was arrested and charged with two additional counts of Sexual Assault.
 

Investigators believe there may be other victims who have not yet come forward and they are urging them to contact police as soon as possible.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence. If you are the survivor of sexual assault, you can report the incident online if:

• You are not in immediate danger
• The person who assaulted you is not present
• There is no evidence present that may be collected by police (blood, semen, saliva, etc.). Evidence can be collected for up to 12 days after the sexual assault has occurred
• You have access to a private email address, to which the suspect does not

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a 53-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred at a physiotherapy clinic in the City of Richmond Hill.

As reported to the College on November 2, 2023, Iraj Daneshvar must:

• Notify the specified officer of any changes in their address in writing within 24 hours of the change happening.
• Not contact or communicate in any way either directly or indirectly, by any physical, electronic or other means, with the witness
• Not be within 200 metres of any place where you know the witness to live, work, go to school, frequent or any place you know thewitness to be except for required court appearances.
• Not possess any weapons as defined by the criminal code (for example, but not restricted to, a pellet gun, firearm, imitation firearm, crossbow, prohibited or restricted weapon or device, ammunition or explosive substance or anything designed to be used or intended for use to cause death or injury or to threaten or intimidate any person(s).
• Not engage in any paid or unpaid work as a registered physiotherapist on female clients/patients unless they have a female colleague present with them in the room
