On June 23, 2022, the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (“the Committee” ) considered an investigation into Gaetanne Claire Aggerholm’s practice following a complaint made by a patient. Because of these concerns, the Committee decided that it would be appropriate to require G Aggerholm to complete a Specified Continuing Educational or Remediation Program (“SCERP”).
On September 13, 2022, the College was informed that G Aggerholm requested a review of the Committee’s decision by the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board (the “Board”). The review was held on September 7, 2023 and the Board’s decision to return the case to the Committee for additional consideration was released on January 3, 2024. The Board’s decision is available on Canlii (www.canlii.org).
The Committee reconsidered the matter on January 22, 2024. After reviewing the Board’s decision and the additional submissions received from the G Aggerholm, the Committee decided to revise the previously issued SCERP. The new SCERP will require G Aggerholm to complete a one-on-one educational program with a practice coach focused on patient assessments and clinical reasoning.
Since 2017, as required by law, the College has been posting information about SCERPs on the public register. A SCERP is ordered by the ICRC when they have identified concerns regarding a physiotherapist’s practice or conduct. A SCERP is an educational program and is not a finding of wrongdoing, professional misconduct or incompetence, nor is it disciplinary in nature.
