  • can only provide services as a physiotherapist assistant (PTA) if certain requirements are met

The panel also ordered Sramit Basnet to pay costs to the College in the amount of $7,000 to offset some of the costs associated with investigating and prosecuting this case.

As a part of the penalty, the Committee issued a reprimand which read as follows:

Mr. Basnet, the panel wishes to advise you that your inappropriate practices will not be tolerated by this profession, and it finds that your lack of care and understanding the standards of practice to be inherently unprofessional.

We acknowledge your cooperation with the College related to this disciplinary investigation and process, but as a profession, we must maintain the confidence of the public and all involved stakeholders.

Your conduct shows disregard for the College standards, undermines the public and third-party funders’ trust, and brings disrepute to the profession. The panel is disappointed that you chose the path you did, and hopes that you learn to appreciate the responsibility and privilege bestowed upon you as a physiotherapist.

It is the panel’s hope that complying with the penalties imposed will provide you with an opportunity to reflect on the behaviour that has brought you before us today. The panel has provided you with an opportunity to correct your behaviours and return to the profession. We hope that you take this disciplinary process as a learning experience. We expect you will not appear again at a disciplinary hearing with this College.
